Cape Verde is a stable democracy. The president is head of state and is elected by popular vote and the prime minister is head of government and proposes other ministers and secretaries of state. Current president of Cape Verde is Pedro Pires prime minister José Maria Pereira Neves (2010).

On the island Santiago, about 6 miles west of Praia is the ancient capital of Cape Verde, Cidade Velha, this was the first city built by the Portuguese. Here is the Old Fort Real de Sao Felipe, from where you have a wonderful view. The most picturesque spot of the island is Pedra do Lume, the crater of the earlier volcano. In 1804 they created a tunnel to get in there. In the historical center of the city of Sao Filipe on Fogo Island, are still buildings that recall the days of slavery.

The culture of Cape Verde reflects its mixed African and Portuguese roots. It is well known for its diverse forms of music such as Morna, a melancholy and lyrical song , sung in Cape Verdean Creole.
And a wide variety of dances, like the soft dance Morna, the passada and the Funaná, a sensual mixed African and Portuguese dance.

In general, the Cape Verdean cuisine is Portuguese oriented. The national dish is Cachupa, a corn dish with different kinds of beans. A very popular fish stew is Caldo de Peixe. Also very popular is Pastel com diablo dentro, a pancake of potato and maize flour which fresh tuna, tomatoes and onions are rolled. This is completely fried and served hot.

The bay Tarrafal on Santiago has a sandy beach and there are small colorful fishing boats. Tourists come here especially to the beautiful beaches and water sports. There are possibilities for a beginner to get instructions. You can find wind surfing, fishing and diving. The beaches of Tarrafal are really worth a visit, they consist of black lava sand, that even seems to have a healing effect. Along the beaches you will find many bars and clubs. Di Nos is the best nightclub in Praia. The nightclubs in Sao Vicente are open every evening during the summer. You hear the swinging rhythm of the music sounds out of the bars and clubs.

Citizen or EU, US, Australia, Canada and Great Britain need a valid passport and a visa to travel to Cape Verde. The passport must be valid until half years after the return and the visa must be requested in advance and approved by the embassy or consulate.

Current President Laurent Gbagbo and current Prime Minister Guillaume Soro (2010). The population continues to suffer because of an ongoing civil war. A new presidential election was expected, but new election could not be held on time due to delay in preparation and has been postponed to 2006, and then numerous times to 2010.

Ivory Coast was once one of the richest countries in West Africa, because the political situation over the past fifteen years, only became more unstable, the civil war still continues today, is it a country with a lot of debt and misery. In 2008 there was a negative travel advice issued because the country is not safe for tourists.

The Basilique Notre-Dame de la Paix the Yamoussoukro is a Roman Catholic church in Yamoussoukro, the capital of Ivory Coast. The original design was based on St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City and has thirty-six enormous stained glass windows. The Guinness Book of Records states that the church is the largest in the world. The basilica can accommodate 18,000 visitors. The building is 518 feet high and domed church is the highest in the world.

The food in Ivory Coast is cheap and tasty and in the real African cities and homes, it is eaten with the hands. In the street they sell Aloco, this is banana in palm oil and spiced with steamed onions, it tastes delicious with grilled fish.

You find beautiful nature in the form of white beaches, forests, mountains, rain forests and oases. The music and wood carving are equally special. The town of Man is known for the African masks, during the festival of masks, in this city shall occur Yacouba dancers. La Cascade is a beautiful waterfall and the Tooth of Man attracts many people, this is a mountain in the shape of a tooth.
Parc National de Taï rainforest with a giant tree and Parc National de la Comoé, the largest protected game reserve in West Africa are also beautiful.

For traveling to Ivory Coast, you must apply for a visa at the embassy or consulate. Your passport must be valid 3 months beyond intended stay and you must show tickets and documents for return or onward travel. International Certificate of Vaccination for Yellow Fever is required, upon arrival from all countries, if the traveler is more than 1 year of age.

Kenya is a presidential representative democratic republic, whereby the President is both the head of state and head of government, and of a multi-party system. The last general elections were held in 2007, after the elections dismissed the election committee Kibaki as the winner. Odinga accused Kibaki of electoral fraud and a in few places in Kenya escalated into violence and destruction of property. Kenyan lawmakers unanimously approved a power-sharing deal in 2008, aimed at salvaging a country usually seen as one of the most stable and prosperous in Africa. The deal brought Kibaki’s PNU and Odinga’s ODM together and heralded the formation of the grand coalition, in which the two political parties would share power equally.

Kenya has no one culture that identifies it, there are about 42 different ethnic groupings in Kenya – each of these with its own unique culture. The Masai culture owes its widespread identification to the tourist industry which has exploited them for purely commercial purposes. The weekly Masai market in Nairobi is the most colorful in Kenya. As historically nomadic people, the Masai have traditionally relied on local, readily available materials and techniques to construct their housing. These Inkajijik are either star-shaped or circular, the structural framework is formed of timber poles and interwoven with a lattice of smaller branches, which is then plastered with a mix of mud, sticks, grass, cow dung and human urine, and ash. The cow dung ensures the roof is water-proof. Villages are enclosed in a circular fence, at night all cows, goats and sheep are placed in an enclosure in the center, safe from wild animals.

The national dish is sukumu wiki, a spinach-like vegetable and Ugali, a sort of porridge of maize flour with a little meat and gravy, which is traditionally eaten with the hands.

Embu is located in the middle of Kenya and is the capital of the province Mashariki. The city is famous for its Jacaranda trees, with the beautiful purple flowers. There is also one of the largest churches in Africa, the Diocese of Mount Kenya East, it has a unique African-inspired design. The oldest church in Africa is in the coastal town Malindi. In Gedi, a village near Malindi are the unique remains of a Swahili town, the Ruins of Gedi.

Kenya has great white beaches, azure sea and inland an overwhelming nature, wildlife parks filled with exotic animals and luxury lodges and cozy tented camps. Between Mombasa, Malindi and Lamu is possible to sail with a dhow, a traditional fishing boat and everywhere you see locals travel by matatus, painted vans.

You need a visa for Kenya, a tourist visa is valid for three months. You can buy on arrival at the airport, or picked up in advance at the embassy or consulate. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months upon departure from Kenya.

In South Africa there is a diversity of cultures, because there are people of diverse origins, cultures, languages and beliefs. Today, the diversity in foods from many cultures is enjoyed by all and especially marketed to tourists, who wish to sample the large variety of South African cuisine.
South African cuisine is heavily meat-based and has spawned the distinctively South African social gathering known as a braai, or barbecue.

South Africa has also developed into a major wine producer, with some of the best vineyards lying in valleys around Stellenbosch, Franschoek, Paarl and Barrydale.

South Africa’s most popular sports are soccer, rugby union and cricket. Other sports with significant support are swimming, athletics, golf, boxing, tennis and netball. Although soccer commands the greatest following among the youth, other sports like basketball, surfing and skateboarding are increasingly popular.

In South Africa there is still architecture from the time of the Dutch and British occupation. The original population lives mainly in huts. Bushmen huts where built of leaves and branches.
